Submissions

Individual Abstract Submissions

We are accepting abstracts focused on research or programme evaluations along with a series of other content areas such as theoretical or practical approaches focussed on any aspect of screening and brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) for problematic use of alcohol, other drugs, gambling, or gaming, relevant to the broader theme of “Optimizing Brief Interventions for a New Era: From Research to Practice and Policy".

All submissions will be reviewed by INEBRIA’s Scientific Committee in terms of originality, clarity, novelty, and importance.

We will inform you as to whether you have been accepted by the end of May 2023.

Abstract submission opens: January 3, 2023

Early Acceptance Deadline March 1st to have decision by April 1, 2023

Abstract submission closes: March 31, 2023

Funding Declarations and Conflicts of Interest

For every submission, information on all relevant funding sources must be provided and a statement on possible conflicts of interest must be included. Where no such conflicts exist, authors should state this. Studies funded directly or indirectly by the alcohol industry will not be accepted.

Please note: Email addresses supplied during submission will be shared with the publisher who may be in contact as part of the publication process. We reserve the right to withdraw abstracts from publication in Addiction Science & Clinical Practice if further information required by the publisher is not provided.

Instructions

Abstracts submitted individually will be considered for oral or poster presentation (you may choose to have your submission considered for oral, poster, or both).

Submissions have to be structured abstracts with the following sections:

  • Background
  • Materials and methods
  • Results
  • Conclusions

An abstract received without the above mentioned structure will be rejected by the Scientific Committee.

Please note that individual abstracts are restricted to a length of 300 words.

Abstracts are only acceptable if study data collection has been complete or is nearing completion. Abstracts which state that the results are pending without at least providing some preliminary findings will generally not be accepted. A completed programme evaluation abstract has to include evaluation methods, findings, and conclusions. Tables or figures are not accepted for abstract submission.

Note: In rare cases, the review committee may accept abstracts of studies that will have very important results and will only be available at the time of the meeting but not at abstract submission time. In such cases, the author should make a very convincing case that major late-breaking results are imminent and will be available and presented.

If accepted, abstracts will be published in INEBRIA’s affiliated peer-reviewed journal Addiction Science & Clinical Practice. Therefore, abstracts presented elsewhere are acceptable for submission and presentation at the INEBRIA conference only if:

  • A manuscript reporting the same or similar results has not been accepted for publication elsewhere
  • The previous presentation of results took place within the 12 months prior to the abstract submission deadline of the INEBRIA conference

Please submit your individual abstract using this online form.

Symposium Submissions

A Symposium is a 90-minute session based on a co-ordinated set of presentations which are related.

A Symposium includes:

  • An introduction
  • Four oral presentations based on abstracts submitted with the Symposium proposal
  • A discussion (including Q+A)

Each oral presentation is allotted 15 minutes. The introduction and discussion (including Q+A) may be done by one or two people, who may or may not be presenters of abstracts submitted, one of whom will likely be the Chairperson of the Symposium. A Chairperson may only lead one Symposium proposal.

The Symposium Chairperson should submit a Symposium proposal using the online Symposium submission form that includes:

  • Title of the Symposium
  • Summary of the goals for the Symposium (300 word limit)
  • The names and affiliation(s) of the people who will be presenting during the Symposium
  • List of the lead authors and titles of the abstracts included in the Symposium proposal
  • An abstract for each of the four individual oral presentations (300 word limit per abstract)
  • Funding sources and conflicts of interest for each abstract

Please submit your Symposium abstract using this online form.

Workshop Submissions

Workshops are supposed to be interactive and require attendees to participate actively. Workshop proposals will include an aim, the question(s) to be addressed, a summary of the anticipated presentation/learning methods, and conclusions. Please note that abstracts for Workshops are restricted to a length of 500 words.

Workshops are selected if the content or approach can be better imparted in interactive learning than through a Symposium. Here are some examples of Workshop topics:

  • Training on brief intervention skills
  • Educational materials
  • New technologies in SBIRT
  • Policy-making or influencing policy
  • Innovative methodologies
  • Innovative implementation strategies

Workshops have a duration of 90 minutes or less.

Please submit your Workshop abstract using this online form.
